The #HalabjaMassacre was #ThisDayInHistory in 1988, when #SaddamHussein ordered a #MustardGas attack on the #Kurdish town #Halabja. 5,000 #Kurds were killed & 10,000 wounded. Across the #KurdishGenocide 100,000 were killed and 80% of settlements in #IraqiKurdistan were destroyed.

In 1943 a top secret consignment of chemical weapons, including deadly mustard gas, arrived in Australia by ship. But there was a problem - it was leaking. Military authorities quickly realised this but, in the interests of secrecy, sent unprotected and unsuspecting wharf labourers into a lethal environment. The result was catastrophic: permanent disability and death.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1988, the Iraqi state and #ChemicalAli used #MustardGas to kill 5,000 #Kurds in #Halabja as a part of the #AlAnfal campaign of #KurdishGenocide. Over 100,000 were killed and 80% of the settlements in #IraqiKurdistan were destroyed by the #Baathist régime.
