Anthropologist Thomas McKenna brings a dramatic story of Philippine guerrilla fighters to life in MORO WARRIOR.

Eighty-one years ago this month, Moro (Philippine Muslim) volunteers in an American army turned back a Japanese invasion force assaulting the southern #Philippines. Remarkably, their only weapons were swords because their American commanders refused to issue them scarce firearms. When the Americans surrendered months later, the Moro kept fighting. #MoroWarrior is the untold story of their amazing exploits.

WW2: The Moro Warriors | Warfare

The unlikely story of one of the most remarkable WW2 resistance movements.

#Introductions

I'm an anthropologist, writer, and the author of #MoroWarrior.

Former Associate Professor of #Anthropology (with tenure) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Left in 2001 to return to my homeland in the #SanFrancisco Bay Area. (Yes, I knew what I was giving up). Joined a Dot.Org research outfit in time to chronicle the rise of Google, Apple, Netflix, Twitter, you name it, for international organizations. Now happily back with my first love—anthropology.
