World Church (#CommunityofChrist leadership) responded to Conversations about D&C 116!

The article from them covers the circumstances. I wrote this article ( https://medium.com/@wednesdayrjones/doctrine-and-covenants-116-is-significant-scripture-and-scripture-is-what-it-should-remain-11bbcee561c3in ) February 2023, in preparation for World Conference 2023 where there was a (proposed) resolution (G-2) to remove Doctrine and Covenants 116 from the canon

I also spoke to the international Beyond the Walls congregation and did a few presentations in the #MormonHistory and #MormonStudies circuit

The Divine told him that it was expedient for them to ordain to her ministers of every race. Joseph was very pragmatic and had his flaws so he added an addendum to "to their own race". this is something the Church os called to repent for has made strides to correct (mostly and doctrinally. individual actions may vary). there is an important lesson in that.

if i get to the celestial kingdom, i am really looking forward to meeting and having a chat with the second prophet of the restoration (RLDS, CoC) Joseph Smith III. (making so many assumptions here)

He served as Justice of the Peace in his town of Nauvoo, IL. He was favored by his constituents and was re-elected. This is significant bc he had to overcome the stigma that came with the name Joesph Smith.

i got the opinion of 2 Black members of #CommunityofChrist

all 3 of us believe that Coc Doctrine and Covenants116 should not he moved to an index.

i feel strongly about this bc i believe that God communicated with the Prophet to inspire him to write that revelation. not only that but it a revelation that shows an attempt at the value of persons we proffess. worth of all persons

i will collect more opinions & testimonies from Black Saints in #CofChrist and compile them

continuing my reading of Invisible Saints: A History of Black Americans in the Reorganized Church.

The book was published in 1988 so it's interesting to see how some of the aspirations for racial justice have fruits i see in 2022.

some of the same issues are still present in the church as well, of course. it's very interesting to read from the future.

now going through a presentation on Race and the Priesthood in #CommunityOfChrist specifically.

there was never a ban but i know there were challenges. it seems the prompting of the revelation confiming Black priesthood was the end of the Civil War. There weren't many Black people involved in the early Reorganization, but i think my next book will give more context.

Joseph Smith and “The” “First” “Vision” - wasmormon.org

Was the first vision a "vision"? Was it the "first" one? Which one is "The" first vision? There are so many different accounts. The gospel topic essay mentions some of the main versions, but they also gloss over the differences and dismiss them all. The First Vision is a total misnomer and can be completely
