Budbreak is here at our domaine in the north east of Terrasses du Larzac! This is the top bud on long - pruned Grenache noir (we will go back later to prune these off and leave the two basal, and less developed/more frost tolerant buds). One of Terre des 2 Sources premium Terrasses du Larzac blocks.

Fourth day in a row with high temperatures of 44 degrees C or more. It's also very dry, so it's a bit like being in a blast furnace with wind...

All plants with shallow root systems are suffering now. Hopefully a return to maximum temperatures below 30 starting on Sunday. The last significant rain was June 30th with 18 mm.

The recent winds have blown down a lot of trees on the domaine, which I'm in the process of cleaning up. This tree has been long dead and the wood spongy, but dry. These holes must be the remnants of a woodpecker's nest, possibly a European Green Woodpecker (French: Pic verte) given the size of the holes. #Birds #Woodpecker #BirdNest #Languedoc #Montoulieu #PicusViridis
