Two baby house finches, eyeballing me from their nest. There were four eggs in the beginning. There are now two babies.
It looks like they will be fledging soon

I opened up another bird nest that had tits nesting last year, only to be faced by this. What the hell are these? Judging from the fresh nest material, birds started building but got scared away. Which I can understand in case of a small bird: even I, a large mammal did not dare digging in…

Seems like Mr. and Mrs. Great Tit are making progress 🐣

The bird "nest" has grown. I still have not seen this actual bird but I am kind of here for its art. I may let this progress even if it is right outside my patio door.

Anyone know what kind of bird builds like this?

This might look like a regular container of a bunch of chives, but if you look carefully you might see the nest and bird in the nest.

I believe a pair of dark eyed juncos are nesting there. My spouse was out on the balcony the other day and saw 3 eggs, so hooray!
(Picture was taken from in the house through our window so we don't disturb)

Since getting back to Georgia, I am on a streak of finding bird nests. Of course, some bird nest like the communal nests of cliff swallows are easier to find find than others. Those mud structures under the edge of the bridge are Cliff swallow nests. These pictures are from a small bridge in the town of Spring Garden, Alabama.

“A poorly focused picture of five white eggs in a nest. The inner lining of the nest looks like soft grass or straw. The main bulk of the nest has a lot of moss. There are no twigs.“

This is an eastern Phoebe nest. Bird nests use different materials. Mockingbirds use almost exclusively twigs. Some birds like Patagonia parrots bury into dirt.

I have found three bird nest this spring.
There are baby mockingbirds in one.
There are baby house finches in another. Note that these are wild House finches here in Georgia. They are invasive here though they are native to New Mexico I think.
And the Phoebe’s are still eggs. Which still count as babies but you know what I mean when I say babies

Young Mockingbirds in the hedge outside one of the local libraries. Frankly, they are much further along in their development than I expected.

Every year a swan makes their nest next to the bike path (or the automotive path or the canal).
And every year someone puts up a fence to guard the swan (guard the bikers? walkers?).
Small nice things are good.
