So @ve3qbz offhandedly mentioned #WoAD again, an Android Winlink app which has some #packetRadio stuff included. Once I updated versions, it actually gave me a terminal. Big fun today going across the continent on UHF, HF, and AXUDP! Used a #Mobilinkd hooked up to a Yaesu FT-60.
@bud_t good stuff. Used APRSlink via WLNK-1 on #APRSDroid for this week's check in using a Yaesu VX-6R and a #mobilinkd
@chrisfarnham Fun! I'm planning to play #APRS on my #Mobilinkd and #FT70d next week.

I finally figured out how to use my #mobilinkd with normal "NODE" style #packet with the help of this webpage.

https://www.tnc-x.com/AGWPE.htm

You pair the mobilinkd with windows bluetooth then look what com port it shows up as in device manager. AGW Packet Engine and AGW Term work now. Also winlink express works fine with out the need for AGWPe now. Just set it up as KISS and point it to that com port.

Windows Installation of DLP USB Module

Built this #TNC from an #Arduino Nano clone and a couple of parts. Flashed it with #mobilinkd firmware. Hooked it up to my #Pofung station and #EeePC and guess what? It works! It's decoding the on-air #APRS packets and transmitting its beacon.

I've looked at the pinout of the DATA jack on the FTM-300.

There is no RX audio out, nor TX audio in.

So, given that the #Mobilinkd works with my HT by connecting to earphone/mic connections (i.e. AUDIO connections), then this absolutely cannot work with the single DATA connection to the FTM-300.

Basically, the FTM-300 doesn't even need a TNC. It takes 1200 or 9600 baud literal data (not tones) from the computer, and does its own modulating.

Truth be told, I COULD have done this with #Mobilinkd through my #Yaesu #FT5D & taken fewer RF hops.

However, it's rainy & cold this morning, & that gear is out in the back yard shed. I didn't want to go out there, bring it in, temporarily disable my iGate so I could borrow its rooftop antenna.

So I kinda sorta combined #AprsThursday & #FediverseFriday

Just a few more repeat events & every week will be #NerdWeek ...or maybe #GeekWeek

The #Mobilinkd #TNC4 appears to be working well on the APRS side. Screenshot shows at least a dozen stations from a ways South of TC Metro up to past Duluth. Phone is in airplane mode, only data coming through the radio, most of it likely from my iGate in the house.

This is encouraging to see. The system works.

My Mobilinkd tnc4 showed up today in very nice packaging 😀

It's actually smaller then i was expecting. I think this would be better paired with my vx1r 🤔
