Jusq...

Why I use "MOLE" to describe what most people are calling "AI"

Disintermedia

"Xero and the AI forum in Singapore had some good conversations, so now, how can we bring some of the AI capability in Singapore to New Zealand, for example?

How can we improve some of the supply chain and where are regulations holding us back? And how can government maybe help us with that?"

Ah, so Xero are like Rocket Lab. A formerly kiwi company, captured by US technofascists.

The roundtable, hosted by ANZ Bank, was to have "open and constructive conversation" about how things could be done better.

> That doesn’t preclude it from being an automated edition/collage of other works which requires a licence to do

Indeed, but that's a separate issue. One of a number raised by using a Trained #MOLE. I've been trying to get @fdroid to formulate a rigorous policy on this;

https://forum.f-droid.org/t/does-f-droid-have-a-formal-policy-on-libre-ai/

Partly because F-Droid need one, made partly because we need one for fediverse.party, and I don't want to define it in isolation.

Does F-Droid have a formal policy on libre “AI”’?

I’ve noticed at least one app installed via F-Droid thay asked me to opt-in to on-device “AI”. Which made me curious about whether the F-Droid team has formulated a policy on this. Are apps with on-device “AI” built from source by F-Droid volunteers, or are they Reproducible Builds? If it’s the latter, what’s the standard for reproducibility here? I imagine the bar would be higher than in the watered down "Open Source AI Definition” that Mufelli pushed through the OSI. Which suggests a need fo...

Of everything Hipkins says in the 30 interview, the one that horrifies me most - as an activist who's spent decades struggling for ethical tech - is the answers to Guyon Espiner's questions about "AI".

... reminds me of watching people build avoidable dependencies on social media platforms a decade ago.

The difference is that only those with a political-economic analysis could have been expected to see the social media rugpulls coning. Whereas this time everyone has those to learn from.

So why are people who ought to know better, setting themselves up for another round of platform rugpulls?!

Fantastic interview in the #MOLE Training con on MediaWatch on Sunday;

"There is definitely some form of regulation, not just to protect the entities per se, but to protect the ... value that we hold for media in our society ... to not be dependent on centralisation, or one *foreign* outlet to control the content and information within our own society."
