They "own" many companies and even public services infrastructure-wise and force their crap on millions of employees via this lever
They've succeeded in making restricted boot a thing in the laptop market
They're in the cloud market

I am working on a C# project for hire, and as much as VSCode isn't bad and I want to move to it as my primary coding platform, that's how much Visual Studio STILL sucks. The actual Microsoft world, the non open source, commercial aspect of it, has improved over the years somewhat, but STILL sucks. It's a good thing I am getting paid for this or else I wouldn't do it.
