A bit late, but happy new year! I hope everyone had good holidays. My start of the year is a bit rough as I'm dealing with mental health issues.

I'm taking my rest and, when focus allows, I try to read. I just finished Dark Matter by Michelle Paver. It's a horror taking place in the arctic. I clearly should've started reading it last week when there was snow everywhere in my country.

Anyway, Jack joins in on an expedition at a secluded bay in Spitsbergen. Due to circumstances, he ends up alone with only dogs for company. It's winter and there is no daylight. It's also a ghost story. You really get a sense of the isolation and Jack's declining mental state. It was unsettling, but not quite scary, and the ending was a bit abrupt. Still was an interesting read, and I like finding a queer book when I didn't expect it.

Come December I pick up some haunting reading. Instead of revisiting #M_R_James or other such #Victorian scribes of the #supernatural this year I have just finished and enjoyed #MichellePaver's #DarkMatter and am about to start #BurntOfferings by #RobertMarasco. Never read it before but have seen the unsettling #FilmAdaptation starring #BetteDavis , #OliverReed and #KarenBlack numerous times 👻 🎄
