Absolutely gorgeous rock found on Dunster beach.
The quartz vein is absolutely perfect. We've not identified the other types of rock yet.

So I understand the striations in rocks at the beach in New Hampshire come from heating and cooling deep in the Earth: some of them get etched by seawater and you can see flakes coming off

From Barb Dutrow, LSU:
...we announce the passing of a metamorphic petrology legend, Michael J. Holdaway on March 21, 2025, at 89 years.
Mike is perhaps best known for his meticulous experiments on the Al2SiO5 system and for developing the andalusite weight loss method for determining reaction direction. At Southern Methodist University his work provided experimental constraints on the triple point of the polymorphs for the first time.

#FridayFold An old picture of a limpet enjoying some beautiful folded greenschist-facies pelite in a rock pool near Thundergay, on the west coast of Arran. The pale bands are rich in fine-grained muscovite; the dark bands also have chlorite. The few rusty spots mark the position of pyrite crystals.
