#Google has just announced that in their infinite wisdom the way they are going to support RCS messaging for #GoogleFi customers is by killing yet another product, Google Fi's message sync to web. By February 2026, all Google Fi customers have to turn off message sync and switch to the version of Google's #MessagesForWeb that synchronizes with your phone in real-time.
Reasons why this sucks: (1/5)
It appears that call audio is once again working for #Google #MessagesForWeb running inside #Firefox. I can't tell you when exactly they fixed it this time around, because it turns out that although real call audio is working again, the buttons to _test_ call and ring audio are still broken!
I've been checking for weeks to see if they'd fixed it yet, using the test buttons. But the tests buttons are broken so those tests were useless. 😭 smdh
In case anyone is keeping score, #Google has AGAIN broken call audio in the #MessagesForWeb app, this time just in #Firefox (it still works fine in #Chrome). Once again, I can make calls, and the other side of the call can hear me, but I can't hear them. Confirmed broken on both Linux and Windows.
I've lost count of the number of times they've done this.
What a fucking 🤡 show it is over there.
It wouldn't surprise me to learn Google has an explicit policy of not testing in Firefox.
Four days latter, call audio in #Google #MessagesForWeb is working again.
Apparently this is just how things are going to be now, it's going to occasionally break for no discernible reason and then start working again a few days later, again for now discernible reason. *sigh*
And… #Google has once again broken call audio in the #MessagesForWeb app. Once again, when I attempt to place calls through Messages for Web I can't hear the audio from the other end of the call.
I guess they've decided they're going to just go with the flow and do this every month now?

For the record, as of today, making phone calls through #Google #MessagesForWeb is working again.
Some time in the past few days, #Google, which of course is well-known for always adequately testing their software before they ship it </s>, broke phone calling in their #MessagesForWeb web app. I've tested it on four different computers, two different browsers, two different operating systems, and two different Linux versions. In all cases, I can't hear audio coming from the other end of the call. I use this functionality nearly every day so I know it broke recently. *sigh*
somewhat frustrated that I have #Slack, #Telegram, #Hangouts, #MessagesForWeb, and #Signal all open at the moment.
