The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false face for the urge to rule it. ~ H.L. #Mencken #quote #humanity #power
#Trump wäre ein treasure trove für #MarkTwain und H.L. #Mencken. Und der Grund für multiple Schlaganfälle der beiden.

My cynicism is flaring up today, so the #QoTD: "Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance."

The stakes for Jake Paul in that fight reminded me of a line from Mencken: “His failure is ignominious and his success is disgraceful.”

#Conscience is an inner voice that warns us somebody is looking.”

#QoTD: “As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the WH will be adorned by a downright moron.” H.L. #Mencken

I initially exhumed that quote during the #Trump regime, but it is still very applicable today. Not so much that Biden is a moron, but that the following election cycle most definitely will be a circus of morons.

#Succession journey now at an end, after binging the last five episodes on a day off work. I don’t think it’s much of a spoiler to point out that, after all that drama, the “winners” and “losers” were always billionaires who never actually needed to fight at all. S4 took a political turn, even calling a character #Mencken just to rub it in.
Let's Please Take a Moment to Cherish Kerry's Brother on 'Succession'

The jet-black-haired beaut only made a brief appearance in Sunday night's episode, but he will live in my heart forever.

The American #satirist H. L. #Mencken: ‘There are people who read too much: the bibliobibuli,’ he wrote in a fragment later published combining the Greek for ‘book’ (#biblios) with the Latin for ‘fond of drinking’ (#bibulus). ‘I know some who are constantly drunk on books, as other men are drunk on whiskey or religion. They wander through this most diverting and stimulating of worlds in a haze, seeing nothing and hearing nothing.’
