Whenever I want to buy clothing, I think about the rivers that are poisoned with the dyes used in manufacturing.
Whenever I want to buy a new electronic device, I think about the children dying from mining rare earth mineral.
Whenever I want to buy packaged food, I think about the marine life dying from the "recyclable" plastic.
Then I often don't buy these things. That's very bad for billionaires. So they don't want us thinking about these things. That's why you don't see coverage of them in corporate media.
A few things to note about how this article is written in tone
1) people need cars, people can't live happy, fulfilled lives without their cars!
2) driving is a right that we should all have
3) congestion, climate change are not things
4) public transit is for dweebs and losers who can't do better
#MediaIsComplicit in #ClimateBreakdown
They are so used to taking car advertising money that they produce articles that reinforce the very shitty status quo we are stuck in without a second thought.
I am asking our media to think about the message they send with articles like this that glorify the place the most destructive forms of transportation in our society.
In the absence of infinite growth economics, do we really have a population crisis?
Do not fall for that narrative. #MediaIsComplicit
Reminder that corporate media serves elite interests, not yours.
In June 2023, the deaths of 4 billionaires in a submersible was covered in some way 24 times in The Globe and Mail.
Within days 700 migrants died off the coast of Greece. It got 2 articles plus one letter to the editor that same month.
The needs and wants of billionaires are normalized through corporate media to become our needs and wants. Corporate media doesn't work to inform us, they work to manipulate us.
Fucking NYT has a profile of RFK that mentions his conspiracy theories but focuses on his delightfully eccentric emu and ravens and oh the silliness that ensues. #MediaIsComplicit #DerelectionOfDuty
Another example of #ClimateBreakdown affecting rich nations yet the worlds #ClimateChange and #ClimateCrisis do not appear at all.
#MediaIsComplicit in #GlobalHeating. They treat these events as one offs or strange occurrences despite these flooding events happening with increasing frequency.
This is a crisis and we need people in rich nations to recognize it for what it is. They have the most power politically and economically to act.

UK has been hit with floods and extreme heat the last few years and its national broadcaster still glorifies consumption.
The pointless news cycle of vapid crap is more important than doing anything to stop needless #ClimateBreakdown causing consumption

Another for the #MediaIsComplicit file.
Not a single mention about #ClimateBreakdown here and the airline industry's gigantic contribution to it. In fact, it talks about Westjet's "ambitious" growth plans like infinite growth is a thing and Canada never made CO2 reduction commitments.
And CBC is supposed to be the left leaning commie outlet that the conservatives can't wait to defund.

If there's anything people can agree on these days, it's that flying sucks. Which may partially explain the online roasting of WestJet's new UltraBasic fare, where travellers can board the plane and that's about it.
