Swansea University alumnus Marcus Wyatt shines at Winter Olympics

Wyatt, who studied Psychology at Swansea and once lit up the field as a wide receiver for the Swansea University Titans, finished fourth in the mixed skeleton event alongside teammate Freya Tarbit — narrowly missing out on a podium place but earning huge praise from across Team GB.

The University said it was “incredibly proud” of the 34‑year‑old, calling his journey from student athlete to Olympic contender “nothing short of inspiring”.

‘We push each other and make each other better’

Wyatt also competed in the men’s skeleton earlier in the Games, finishing ninth, while his long‑time teammate and roommate Matt Weston stormed to gold — becoming only the third British man in history to win an individual Winter Olympic title.

Despite his own disappointment, Wyatt said he was thrilled for Weston, describing their friendship and rivalry as central to their success.

“We work super close, we push each other and help make each other better,” he said. “It’s really cool that we can be experiencing these things together.”

Wyatt admitted he “wanted a lot more” from his own runs but said the margins in elite skeleton racing were incredibly tight.

Eyes now on mixed doubles

Wyatt’s Olympics are not over yet. He returns to the ice for the mixed doubles, where he and Tabby Stoecker have already won two World Cup events this season. Team GB believe they are genuine medal contenders.

Weston said his teammate is “raring to go” and backed the pair to challenge the world’s best.

From Swansea student to Olympic stage

Wyatt first arrived at Swansea University in 2014, balancing his Psychology degree with American football — helping the Titans secure the National Challenge Trophy that same year.

He later switched to skeleton and has since become one of Britain’s most consistent sliders, competing as part of the British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association.

Swansea University said it “couldn’t be prouder” of his achievements as he continues to make history on the world stage.
