@ad5nl @jeffjarvis @mmasnick That decentralization brings a remarkable resiliency. Even if all current servers are nuked, you could fire up a new machine (assuming someone has a copy of the software) and you're back in action like that (sort of).

The notion of downloading all your data and taking it anywhere reminds me a lot of the novel Walkaway by @pluralistic

So I made a new bot that just toots out the current top 10 largest #Mastodon instances by user count, according to instances.mastodon.xyz.
The bot toots once a day via cronjob, and it's set to not appear in public timelines.
