Masterwort (Peucedanum ostruthium) is a perennial herb native to alpine and subalpine regions of Central and Southern Europe. It typically grows in moist meadows, forest clearings, and along streams. The plant has large, palmate leaves and produces flat umbels of pale pink to white flowers in summer.
Masterwort provides nectar and pollen for a variety of insects, including bees, hoverflies, and beetles. Its dense foliage also offers ground cover, helping to stabilize soil on slopes and reduce erosion in its native mountainous habitats.
Traditionally, Masterwort root has been used in folk medicine as a remedy for digestive issues, respiratory ailments, and rheumatism. It was valued for its warming, antispasmodic, and anti-inflammatory properties.
The plant grows in our meadow near a big hedge.
