Today’s delicious Van Damme double feature: Kickboxer, a perfect appetizer, and Bloodsport, a perfect main course.

Both filled with martial arts goodness, Paul Hertzog’s synth-heavy tracks, and Stan Bush’s raspy songs – not to mention training montages with mustached masters, lots of splits, and nasty oriental opponents.

Kickboxer is already good, but Bloodsport is great – it’s my favorite JCVD flick and my favorite martial arts movie, improving on Kickboxer in every aspect: a better story, better action, better characters, better production values, a better theme song, and overall better music.

The Eight Masters (1976)

Shiao Chieh is left to a monastery when his family is killed, and grows up to be an incredible martial artist. He passes a gruelling and weird series of tests, most of which consist of being whacked by bronzemen, and goes out into the material world. He returns to live with his blind mother and his cousin, Ming Chu, who keeps being visited by an older dark stranger. Shiao Chien soon discovers Ming Chu is not really his cousin, but the niece of a man whose earnest wish is to see him die.

I used to love the cheap cardboard box dvds I got of kung fu and and martial art style films. Street fighter with #SonnyChiba and fearless hyena (i think was the title with #JackieChan they may have been bootlegs but still remember them fondly.

#JustWatched Enter The Dragon in the #cinema for its 50th anniversary. Not all of it has aged well, but the action and cinematography are excellent. I haven’t seen many #MartialArtsFilms, but I can see why it was so influential.

as @analgesicsleep noted, #TCMParty will be showing THE CRIPPLED MASTERS (1979) on Sun, 7/9/23, at 9:45 PM ET as part of their #DisabilityReclaimed series.

The film is 90 min (see Dani's post above for a free YT link) but #TCM has 2-1/2 hrs blocked out for it, so I'm not sure what's up.

Im Kultfilm #Karate-Kid sagt Sensei Miyagi auf die Frage nach seinem Gürtel: "JC Penny 3,99$, you like?" in der deutschen Synchronisation erwidert er "Gürtel für halten Hose oben." mal abgesehen von der Frage warum Sensei Miyagi nicht korrekt sprechen darf, welche Antwort findet ihr besser? Die lustige oder die philosophische?
