The importance of this cannot be understated. While Joel "invented" the show and the early versions of the Bots, it was Trace who rebuilt them for the Comedy Central era and built most of the props that weren't Joel's Invention Exchange items. Him being the Art Director will mean that MST3K will look... like MST3K, possibly more so than it did under just Joel.

OH MY GOD.

Remember how a week ago people were freaking out about Joel formally selling MST3K to Shout!?

Well... it's not the result I was hoping for (a lo-fi Emily-led reboot), but honestly it's the best possible outcome.

And the people seem to agree, their kickstarter is currently at $1,121,703
pledged of $20,000 goal with 41 days to go.

And unlike Joel, Mike and the RIfftrax team have a good working relationship with Trace (Dr. Forrester), Frank, Mary Jo (Pearl Forrester), pretty much anybody from the original years aside from Josh.

#MakeMoreMST3K didn’t meet their goal: https://showmaker.mst3k.com/stories/bKo7z5 Good on them for trying to make some hard budget cut choices, but the response was way too late in the campaign to help. Hopefully they take these lessons to their next attempt in the future (and I’m glad they’re trying again!). #MST3K

Greetings, backers. Well, we’ve come to the end of the month, and the end of the Turkey Day Marathon and this campaign. While we’re incredibly grateful for all of the support, enthusiasm, and encouragement, it’s clear we’ve fallen short of our goal this time. First, to be clear, please understand that that means that no one will be charged anything, and we will not be collecting anything that you pledged to this campaign , since the agreement was that we’d only collect funds if we reached our minimum goal. No charges will be put on anyone’s credit cards. Second, and more important, please know that we’re incredibly grateful for all of your input, feedback, concerns and questions, and are thinking about all the suggestions you have made over the past month. One silver lining is that the continued support for this campaign, and the show, may have opened up some new conversations about potential partnerships and fundraising that could be key in getting the show another season. We’ll spend some time now exploring those, and working to integrate all of the feedback and suggestions we’ve heard from you, and will follow up again next year, Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, when we’ve had a chance to regroup and have more to share downstream. For now, whether you pledged or not, please accept our thanks and gratitude for your ongoing dedication and investment in MST3K. We’re proud that the show continues to mean so much, to so many, and will keep working to figure out a path forward so that we can hopefully continue to #MakeMoreMST3K. This is weird year for mass media. Audience don't want more #MST3K. They don't want more #Marvel. They don't want more #Disney. Maybe audiences just don't want *anything* any more?

"The Christmas Dragon" feels like it was *designed* to annoy old #ADnD players. A fantasy elf helps orphans save medieval Christmas (because if anything was losing popularity in the Middle Ages, it was Christianity) and a dragon pulls Santa's sleigh. Medieval fantasy is supposed to be grimmer than this, people!

"Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" is a famously silly movie about Martians kidnapping #SantaClaus to cheer up their children.

I would steal that plot for a #TeenagersFromOuterSpace #TTRPG adventure -- aliens kidnap Santa, and the Teeners are the only ones with spaceships who can rescue him. Be sure to add a scene where Teeners have to try to explain the meaning of Christmas to Martians.

In "Santo in the Treasure of Dracula," a Mexican wrestler uses a time machine to try to find out where Dracula buried his treasure, setting off a chain of events that resurrects Dracula.

Strip out the silliness, and there's a plot you can use in a #TimeTravel #TTRPG -- a slightly shady time traveler who isn't trying to change history, just collecting *information* that's profitable in the present. Until it goes wrong, of course, and PCs have to save the day.
