The #MacheteProject, is a digital platform to support youth and farmer-led tropical forest restoration movement. The software development project manager is based in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. She has two boys the age of my sons, and we often chat about our kids at the end of our Zoom meetings. Her husband is away, serving in the Ukrainian army. As I watch the news of Putin's army bombing her town today, I am reminded to call my congressperson to urge them to vote for aid to Ukraine. #Ukraine
It's almost Friday, the day I get to meet with the business analyst and product manager who, together with designers and devops people, have been slowly building the #macheteproject platform. It has been slow because a war is raging against their country. Our business analyst, for example, was recently displaced from Karkhiv to Ukraine. I am asking for opinions on mapping software for forest restoration that links to storytelling tools. I am weighing MapBox (http://Explorer.land) against google's http://Restor.eco. We need to build in the correct APIs to #macheteproject, but we don't know our future funders...so it's hard to choose from that standpoint, so I guess we should focus on which offers the best function and scalability. Today was a good day. I spent some time catching up on the latest carbon finance schemes and forest carbon projects under development. The review was a reminder to me that the project I am working on has a unique contribution to make. Thus, me taking a course oon "council", to try to learn to listen. #macheteproject
The course I am taking is about "council", which might be a central method in the #macheteproject to connect youth with farmers in a meaningful. Otherwise, the question is how can we listen to those who know about tropical vegetation management and thereby elevate them and their forestry knowledge in a way that facilitates forest restoration.
