PandaSome two decades ago I read "In #Europe - Travels Through the Twentieth Century." by Geert #Mak - I felt much of what he described; especially about the Baltic countries, Poland and Europe being "united" and forward thinking. The spirit he described I saw during my travels and felt through my friends, who grew up in the Warsaw pact block.
Now I'm reading his follow-up (published in 2022) "Great Expectations: On the Trail of the European Dream" and even the first 50 pages are very striking. I feel trapped and have to silently admit he's right. Many of those dreams are nothing but dead.
