@alx @TheBreadmonkey OK. The anger needs to be at the rapists.
But also, misinformation is a fascist project.

There are no '62 million men' in this story. Anywhere at all.

CNN reported about a gross adult/anything video website. It had 62m *views* in a month. Some of those videos were clearly of men abusing sleeping women.
The journalist saw a comment from a user linking to 'zzz', a Telegram channel (men teaching other men how to enact this abuse and share it), which had *one thousand* subscribers. All of them, scum.

That should be the headline. Not some made up inflated rubbish about millions. Not because these criminals aren't awful, but:
A) 1,000 is an approachable number to seek out perps and try for justice.
B) terrifying millions of women that their spouse is in on this helps nobody.

1/ the report (poor journalism citing the 62m views, it was clearly going to be distorted) https://edition.cnn.com/interactive/2026/03/world/expose-rape-assault-online-vis-intl/

2/ unpicking fact from fiction https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/cnn-online-rape-academy/ - which is important, truth matters. Without it we can't hope to address problems like this.

@robinince I was actually just chatting on the skeptics discord about this yesterday/today. Some misinformation crept in that I believe is important to tackle - but I've caught a lot of abuse on IG for saying so.

It was not revealed how many men went on the website. The '62 million' that many have cited was a *view* count for an overall p*rn site, on which a user linked to a Telegram chat ('zzz') that had around one thousand members*, in which men were swapping tips and how-to-abuse-your-partner guidance.

So overall, fking disgusting as usual. But NOT the '62 million men' that so many shared. I think this falsehood has contributed to apathy honestly. What an absolutely paralysing number. And not even a relevant one particularly.

*one rapist is too many. A thousand is grotesque. But at least it's approachable, unlike 62m.

My thoughts today are with all girls who were sexually harmed by adult men, men who then went on to be publicly supported and celebrated.

#MVAWG will never lessen until those who have the power to shape public thinking make a conscious effort to start taking it seriously.

Amantai Zharkynbek, a deputy from the ruling Amanat political party, said that if a woman’s husband is sentenced to 15 days of administrative arrest for domestic violence, then “it follows that his wife should be detained too,” for “provoking” the abuse. Deputy Zharkynbek also proposed that the women be labelled “provocateurs” in family abuse cases and that they be held equally accountable for the violence.
