My thoughts today are with all girls who were sexually harmed by adult men, men who then went on to be publicly supported and celebrated.
#MVAWG will never lessen until those who have the power to shape public thinking make a conscious effort to start taking it seriously.

'Things are different around the Games...things are exaggerated' said van den Hoogenband, as though concern about a convicted child rapist being selected to represent a country at the Olympics is an exaggerated, over the top reaction.

Paula Radcliffe wished van de Velde 'good luck' for the same reason Netherlandsā chef de mission, Pieter van den Hoogenband, said that he had been "surprised by the negative reaction" to a child rapist being sent to the Olympics.

Of course, some of the public hears this and realises that "nice men" might not always be so nice after all. They realise that the abuser was putting on an act in public.
But, lots of people don't get this. Instead, they blame murder victims for "making" nice guys kill.
When the media calls men who kill as the ultimate act of domestic abuse "nice men", it's hugely counterproductive.
Some of the public hear this and think the murder victim must have deserved to die, must have provoked the killer.

Child marriage is a still legal in 37 US states.
As this article highlights, marrying a child is pretty much a dream scenario for coercively controlling abusive adult men. Their young 'wives' have an extremely tough time escaping them.
