I'm appreciating this delightfully oblique sentence tucked into the liner notes for Luke Stewart's "Works for Upright Bass and Amplifier Vol. 2," available on the Astral Spirits label.

Luke Stewart Silt Trio - Unknown Rivers

Came to this via an article in the NYT, but bassist, bandleader and composer Stewart has been around a long time.

Opening track is a great way in, with a fat bass line intersecting with an almost hip-hop beat that cuts across it rhythmically, and a sax often doubling the bass.

The “trio” is a bit mixed, with different drummers on the A and B sides (both good, of course).
