#PollyToynbee is 100% right: it might be the last gasp chance for democracy: lower the vote to 16. The kids CAN'T do any worse than we've done.

Young people say they’d elect a ‘strong leader’. I say give more of them the vote

Given what gen Z have been through, it’s no wonder they’re not impressed by democracy. But giving them a real stake in it could change everything, says Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee

What a disaster: if MPs insist on acting like children, why don't we just lower the vote, then? #LowerTheVote to 16.

VERY interesting article on the voter turnout in the #UK election. I assumed the 'stay aways' were disaffected #Conservative voters. Nope. It was "the have-nots", as the article says.
To me, the biggest takeaway: #Labour's intention to LOWER THE VOTING AGE to 16. Excellent: those new voters have far more skin in the game than, for example, I do.

@mbonsma The reason I say #LowerTheVote; I'd happily give my vote (I'm 73) over, randomly, to a 16 year old. They have SO MUCH MORE skin in the game than I do.
#LowerTheVote...to 16. THEN you'll finally see change. It would be the single greatest and most progressive change democracy has seen in a couple hundred years. It's THEIR future, not mine in the balance.

@georgetakei Go the other way: #lowerthevote to 16. They have far more at stake than I do.
