Look. I'm not particularly fond of Helian Yi (I mean... I'm not not fond of him), but discovering something (potentially) very shocking regarding the person he loves? (Is infatuated with?) And then being sloppy after hearing footsteps bc he was looking at something he wasn't supposed to... makes total sense.
I love how Beiyuan is: no that's not how you kiss, THIS is how you should kiss ME. And then proceeds to instruct WuXi lol

I couldn't resist going to sleep without reading a bit more and omg, these two are killing me. After half a year of not seeing each other and WuXi's epiphany about his feelings for Beiyuan... They finally reunite and... the ring...
“What’s different about it?” he questioned, teasing.
Wu Xi went quiet for a bit. “I can’t tell you right now. Anyways, it’s different.”
