I had the pleasure of interviewing with @amadeus, for Linux Audio Plugin Development. Amadeus has been a champion for Linux music production. In this interview, we talk about my new album, activism and music tech, and my favorite software on Linux for music-making.

Arend Lee Jessurun | Linux Audio Plugin Development (LAPD)

LAPD aims to make Linux more attractive as a platform for computer-based music production.

@mosgaard Regarding your 5th point (no software mixer/control app available), there's https://github.com/geoffreybennett/alsa-scarlett-gui for Focusrite USB interfaces, I though it'd be worth mentioning.

This, and the pretty good hardware support for the Scarlett line on #Linux make it my 1st recommendation for #LinuxAudio newcomers.

To follow up:
Yes, you can use Windows plugins and DAWS through Wine. There is different solutions for this, Yabridge is the most mentioned.

But be aware, this is not always a stable solution. For DAWs through Wine you can experience latency which makes it unusable for specific purposes, for Plug-ins there might be some extra manual actions to make it work, and expect things to break once in a while when apps, distros, packages are updated.

You're welcome to prove me wrong on this

#LinuxAudio

So far, this is my experience with #LinuxAudio

1) It's totally doable
2) If you want a stable low latency solution, go for native DAWs (Reaper, Bitwig, Ardour) and plugins, check https://linuxdaw.org/
3) Find a good Pipewire guide and use pipewire-jack
4) Use Millisecond (app) for setup
5) Don't expect a software mixer/control app for you audio device (makes it easier to find a usable audio device)
6) Get used to not having your favorite plugins with you. Don't worry, you can do it!

Today's adventures in #LinuxAudio were a success! From now on I only have to start one (1) application in terminal to be able to get everything working.
Of course I'll have to see what happens to the graphics when I use two #VST plugins at the same time... There are some #winecfg shenanigans involved.
@snugglybun try the #linuxaudio tag - there are quite a few companies providing Linux versions of their plugins

Hi #LinuxAudio

Have any of you checked out Wine-NSPA for Windows apps/plugins? Seem interesting!

(But let's be honest, for serious compability, run Linux native apps and plugins)

Before the weekend I stumbled upon a toot from @illegalhex: https://hachyderm.io/@illegalhex/115425002242151795

Read it, read it again and read it another time. Then I looked up Green Eggs and Ham from Dr. Seuss (TIL!) which made me appreciate this poem even more.

Grabbed my guitar and almost instantly inspiration popped up. So I spend this weekend recording and mixing the rendition of this poem to a short song.

Recorded and mixed with #Ardour. All #FOSS plugins. And thanks illegalhex for the inspiration!!!

I DO NOT WANT AI AND SPAM
I DO NOT WANT THEM SAM-ALT-MAN!

#noai

Needless to say this song was made with zero AI. It was made with real instruments (acoustic guitar, bass and vocals) and some digital assets. The drums is the Blonde Bop Hot Rod from AVL (https://www.x42-plugins.com/x42/x42-avldrums) and the organ is setBfree (https://www.x42-plugins.com/x42/setBfree).
