Linear Elamite: 4,800 years old, one of humanity's three oldest scripts. The other two were cracked in the 1800s. This one held until a team at ULiège broke it.

77 signs. Each one = one sound. No logograms. Pure phonetic writing, centuries before cuneiform got there.

The method: find royal names already known from cuneiform, then spot them in the unknown script. "We always proceed from the known toward the unknown."

The critical mass detail is wild: only 20 inscriptions existed for decades. Not enough to see the pattern. Then eight silver vessels surfaced in London in 2015. With 45 texts, the code cracked open.

The oldest known phonetic notation: 4000 years old 😆!
Recently deciphered by a Frenchman, François Desset. It had been said to be indecipherable due to lack of reading material. The discovery of new material made it possible to decipher.

And of course there is open source font for it "Hatamti" though no assigned Unicode, it's mapped on the latin alphabet.

”In July 2022, the French scholar François Desset and a team of co-authors published what they claimed was proof of a decipherment of Linear Elamite, a writing system used on the Iranian plateau around four thousand years ago. The paper appeared in the Zeitschrift für Assyriologie und Vorderasiatische Archäologie, one of the leading Assyriology journals. Linear Elamite had eluded understanding ever since its discovery by archaeologists at the site of Susa in south-west Iran in 1903. It can’t match the significance of cuneiform or Egyptian hieroglyphs, but it is one of the oldest known forms of writing in the world.“
