Remembering Levi Stubbs from The Four Tops

(June 6, 1936-October 17, 2008)

#Music, #LeviStubbs, #TheFourTops

#OnThisDay in 2008, #LeviStubbs [Stubbles], American baritone singer (The Four Tops - "It's the Same Old Song"; "Standing In The Shadows of Love"), died at 72.
#RIP 🪦
Continuing my #StevieWonder journey, I listened to Up-Tight his morning. This is the first album where his voice would be recognizable to folks who are familiar with his 1970s/1980s hits. Although "Up-Tight" is the best-known single, and many note his cover of Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind," my favorite track was "Teach Me Tonight," a duo with #LeviStubbs, the lead singer of the #FourTops. Stubbs' lower register and more aggressive style is a great complement to Wonder's sweeter sound.

BLABBERMOUTH.NET

I've been murdering Four Tops songs all afternoon. A benefit of working from home for me and also my work colleagues as they don't have to hear me sing (it ain't good, trust me) as I tap away on the laptop.

I love the Four Tops. Levi's voice is just so good.

Here's a little 'Ask the Lonely' Live in Paris 67.

"They'll tell you a story of sadness,
A story too hard to believe...
They'll tell you the loneliest one is me..."
