I don't know whether to cheer, or to cynically roll my eyes. But now that #Pennsylvania residents are starting to turn out in massive opposition to #DataCenters, Josh #Shapiro has proposed "standards" for development and Stacy #Garrity has called for a "pause." Are they really listening to us, or is this the usual disingenuous "pivoting"/spin to try to stop the hemorrhage of #voters in an #election year? #politics
I never understood #Pavement. Do I need to? #music #1990s
Just finished listening to The #Clash 's Sandinista! album. My fave #song is "Silicone on Sapphire." The instrumentation really reminded me of #Radiohead's OK Computer, which I love. I also think SoS's well-chosen #lyrics, which draw from commands and concepts that aren't common knowledge outside of the #programming world, but suggest human emotions and interactions, is extremely clever! #music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU0Lo4gqRPU&list=RDFU0Lo4gqRPU&start_radio=1

Look how peaceful you look as you let an entire continent colonize you; as you lay the book down on the nightstand, as if returning to the world something…

In August 1974, U.S. #House and #Senate leaders visited #President #Nixon and told him he no longer had any support in #Congress. The next day, Nixon resigned. The next few days will tell us whether Mike #Johnson and John #Thune have the balls to do similar with #Trump. Threatening to destroy a "whole civilization" needs to be THE bright red line. #Iran
Thrilled to have Pedro Martín, Newbery-honored #author of Mexikid, on campus! #childrensliterature #kidslit
I haven't been posting much because I am on sabbatical, doing #libraryhistory research. Here is a gem that I found today in a scrapbook. Fun for folks who research #gender and #womens history!
Disgusting hat two kids who have no background in #arts or #history threw thousands of grant applications into #ChatGPT, told it to look for projects that "involve #DEI", and recommended termination based on what #AI told them. No critical thinking about how the bot interpreted their prompt or the wording used in the grants. Besides unfairness toward #women and people of color, DOGE's so-called "work" was apparently incompetent as f*ck. https://abcnews.com/Politics/2-doge-staffers-regrets-people-losing-income-reduce/story?id=131050170
2 DOGE staffers say 'no' regrets for people losing income, didn't reduce the deficit: Depositions

The DOGE employees defended the effort to cut "useless agencies."
