This was upsetting but something I groaned about and then moved on.

Then, in January of 2026, Google introduced generative AI into their Gmail inboxes. For me, this was the last straw. I decided it was time to leave Google.

Hoe moeilijk kan het zijn, om een email-client te maken die net zo handig werkt als de browserbased gmail client. Dus net zo lekker werkend, met copy/paste van foto's en het snoozen van emails. Ik ben teleurgesteld in Thunderbird. Op de mobiel is het beter, maar op linux valt het me tegen.

@xiffy Het overstappen naar Thunderbird is een eerste stap in mijn #leaveGoogle proces. Ik wil eerste een alternatieve email client zien te vinden zodat ik dan van emailprovider kan overstappen.
Maar dan loop je tegen allerlei issues aan. Zo kan ik dus niet een foto copy/pasten in een email in Thunderbird. En dat gebruik ik heel vaak. Weer zo'n klein ding die het lastig maakt om over te stappen. Net als het kunnen #snoozen.
Het issue op de mobiel is opgelost, het lag aan de beta-versie van TB.

Ik wil graag van Google af. Gebruik nu dus Thunderbird op de mobiel. Maar dan lukt het niet om een paar foto's te versturen. En het was belangrijk, dus, shit shit shit! Terug naar de Gmail app, hoppa, geen probleem.

We hebben nog een lange weg te gaan.
