What the bosses of #Laser558 ( #1980s #offshoreRadio station) said was at least mostly correct, but what they didn't admit to is funders included Philip Morris (yes, the #BigTobacco company! 🚬 ) - for decades offshore stations were seen as a way of getting round strict anti #tobacco ads rules on European radio) - eventually the EU started leaning on Laser, PM pulled the funding and they closed down not long afterwards ( #RadioCaroline took over the 558 kHz frequency)

Listening to #RadioCarolineFlashback and they've got a remastered 2 hour programme from #Laser558 presented by DJ Erin Kelly from 1985.

It really was music radio reinvented at a time when there was a lot of good music around.

#PirateRadio had passed its peak in my opinion, but no one can argue with Laser's influence on British radio.
