@Farmahond Niet te vroeg juichen, er zijn nog voldoende gewetenloze โ‚ฌ 900 p/u advocaten en zelfverklaarde wetenschappers in dienst van #bigtobacco

@vozercozer no... The problem with tobacco is how addictive nicotine is. Like the most addictive thing we know of. So people starting smoking is the issue - if we could stop Tobacco getting its claws in people, the demand would fizzle and die.
Instead of people going through that.
Tobacco kills HALF its users. Half! We would not allow ANY new product with that risk. The problem is addicts already exist.
So it's about phasing it out. It's not ageism, the point is that people start smoking at some time so you block access before then.

Existing smokers need quit strategies and that's a different ballgame. That's why we now have plain packaging, health warnings, advertising bans and purchase by request only, not on the shelves.

I hope that helps. Please read more around this bill.

โ€œA jury in LA has delivered a damning verdict for two of the world's most popular digital platforms, Instagram and YouTube.

It ruled those apps are addictive, and deliberately engineered that way โ€“ and that its owners have been negligent in their safeguarding of the children who have used them.

Some experts have described the verdict as big tech's "big tobacco" moment, and we know how that worked out - although it didn't stop people smoking altogether.โ€

What next for big tech after landmark social media addiction verdict?

The ruling could be the beginning of the end of social media as we know it, writes the BBC's technology editor Zoe Kleinman.

Bloomberg Technology | Meta, Google Risk Big Tobacco-Like Fallout After Addiction Trial by Kurt Wagner, Alexandra S Levine

A landmark jury verdict holding Meta Platforms Inc. and Alphabet Inc.โ€™s Google liable for harming a young user with products designed to be addictive threatens to put the social networking companies in the same category as Big Tobacco and opioid makers โ€” a potential crack in their shield from legal responsibility for what happens on their platforms.

For instance, everyone who smokes tobacco products and sees marijuana as an illegal substance is a result of American nationalism/racism and #BigTobacco lobbying for the US government to classify it as illegal.

Marijuana is quite literally one of the most versatile plants on the planet. But because a bunch of rich white men in America could not control it to make profit from it, they decided to focus on the addiction aspect, as if tobacco isn't also addictive.
