November GrauOh what a surprise, behind yesterday's flap of the Whack Life Advent Calendar was the discovery that my recently "repaired"computer has gone back to its bullshit after just 3 days, great job Boulanger (and ASUS, assuming it ever saw the inside of a proper ASUS repair centre. Assuming one even exists.)
So I don't fancy the idea of committing it back to their tender care over the Christmas rush, but in the new year I'll be taking it back to the shop and going through all that nonsense again, since it's had a warranty extension of 6 months after the first "repair". If that fails, one of my neighbours has warmly recommended an independent PC repair guy in Vire, but obviously that wouldn't be free.
In the meantime, I'm stuck with using my shonky old travel Lenovo - which was only ever meant to be an emergency stopgap between two better laptops - to do the considerable amount of work I've got over the festive season. That said, Duffy has implemented a workaround that prevents the Big Chap from going into sleep mode at all (it can come out of hibernate fine, but is very flaky about coming out of sleep) and I'm thinking about just using it as a thin client (since I love its big screen and keyboard) while keeping the little old Lenovo as the brains of the operation.
I'm putting these hashtags up but I don't have much hope anyone can help. The fault diagnosis report that came back just said "Parts + thermal paste replaced" (could they possibly be more vague?) so it sounds like they changed the motherboard, which is what I'd expected, but who knows.

So tired of this stuff though. And I realize taking the Big Chap back to ASUS probably won't achieve much. These things have the lives of butterflies. I wish I was in a less precarious living situation and could just get a real desktop rig and stop being stranded on the Planet of the Laptops. But maybe my memories of those are rose-tinted as well.
