Colombia's Indigenous prepare youth to protect land and environment

Indigenous Nasa children in Colombia's southwest region are being trained how to protect land their people have reclaimed from vast industrial sugarcane plantations. That includes things like cleaning up the land and posting signs about their commitment to the environment. The children are nurtured as future leaders by “semillero” schools. But the work is not without danger. The region of Cauca is still affected by violence, and armed groups in the area often seek to lure young people into their organizations. Some in government also criticize Indigenous communities for land takeovers they say violate property rights and risk future conflict.
