Nice little Lace Monitor in the front yard this morning.
Visitor out near our road yesterday. A bit over 5’, but not thick-bodied, so not very old.
Lace Monitor in the backyard this afternoon after I put an egg on the offering rock this morning. (note the lack of egg in these photos).
(egg wasn't entirely up to human consumption, as it floated when doing the float test).
Met this handsome fellow on our walk this afternoon.
It's a Lace Monitor (colloquially also known as a Goanna).
Lace Monitors are cousins of Komodo Dragons. They're mildly venomous, and have long sharp claws.
So I was a little...distracted...when I turned around after looking at a bird, and saw this >1 metre beast eyeing me from the ground a few metres away.
It climbed up this trunk and hissed at me. After I'd backed off and taken some piccies, I then noticed the other one in the tree I was standing next to...

Warm day today = goannas
This joker was standing on my drive as I arrived home from work and went up the tree as I got closer.
This particular one would have been a little under 150cm (5’), but we definitely have bigger ones on the property.
And for my final #WorldLizardDay post, a trio of Lace Monitors (aka Goannas). These are the largest of the lizards I'm likely to encounter here (sometimes see one wandering through my property).
They are excellent climbers, can run very quickly, and grow up to around 1.5m long (2/3rds of that being the tail length).

Dinosaur...
This large lace monitor is passing through a deer wallow about halfway down our block.
Especially for @steveportigal
Mate, you don't belong in my garage.
Visited by a lace monitor (varanus varius) about 80cm long (just a little one). Probably looking for somewhere cool to hide from the >30C heat.
Scooched it out with a broom. Took off like a rocket.
