Sad (jokingly). Boyfriend could only name ONE of my favorite folk heroes (and not Zorro, my pre-transition Screen Name was "Diego2112," Zorro is basically the "Free Space" in bingo of my folk heroes 😜)
For anyone wondering, they are (in no order):
Zorro (Diego de la Vega)
Robin (of Locksley) Hood
the So Called Arthur King (Said with the most OUTRAGEOUS FRENCH ACCENT (that's a Monty Python's Holy Grail reference, by the way)
If I had to pick just one though? King Arthur. Sean Connery as King Arthur in First Knight had a line that literally changed the way I live my life:
"Hey, I take the good with the bad! I khaan't love people in shlises." (you have to type it in his voice, too ya know!)
And that's how I've lived my life ever since hearing that line. Genuinely, I can't love people in slices. I love with all of me, and love all of them. I know no other way.
Thus began my love affair with Arthurian Legend, and I've read it all. From Geoffrey of Monmouth to Sir Thomas Mallory to T.H. White to Alfred, Lord Tennyson to freakin' Chrétien de Troyes (who INVENTED the Grail Cycle), to Mary Stewart. I don't think there's a single author I've not read (though let's all just remember to stay away from Marion Zimmer Bradley's works, yeah? Friggin' sex pest), and if there is, I would love to know! (my list is NOT all inclusive, by the way!)
I've seen the movies. Some I like better than others. I've read the historical suggestions (I personally enjoy the idea of him being a leader in a Roman unit).
There's not a bit about the legend I think I've missed. In fact, in University, one might say I focused a bit TOO hard on Arthurian Legend...
My Elegy for Avalon system is based heavily around the mythos. The world the continent of Avalon is set in is based around it--King Arthur is IN it (hence, Avalon). The concept of him not returning is explained via this world--I just absolutely ADORE Arthurian Legend.
Anyway, yeah.
So who's your favorite #KnightOfTheRoundTable? Mine's Tristan.
