Sheesh, I know it's 2024 & the tenth anniversary of Rosetta & Philae arriving at Comet 67P/C-G, but does my left *kidney* really need to pay tribute?! ☄️🛰️🫘

Anyway, am happy to have that little bugger out of my body – who'd have thought getting rid of a 5mm object could cause such agony, but then the ureter is a pretty narrow tube 😬✌️

Take it from me kids, drink more water. No, more than that. Keep going ... 🚰🚰🚰👍

I’m more accustomed to the science coming from photon-counting x-ray telescopes, not so much being the target of a photon-counting x-ray microscope, but … 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, a CT scan was just part yesterday’s emergency visit to the urology department of the Heidelberg University Clinic 😬

A pretty miserable way to spend seven hours on a Saturday, so do yourselves a favour:

Finally got a callback from the triage nurse, because the pain has been teh sux (to use the parlance from 15 years ago) post-procedure from last Friday.

That’s the end of the good news.

The rest of the news is that yes, what I am feeling is unfortunately “normal”. Yes, even the nausea and occasional vomiting. It’s pain-induced, and refilling Tramadol is a no-no. Which is fine. I hate that particular opiate.

I did get clarification on the use of ibuprofen, my body’s favorite painkiller. I can do 800 mg for 4 hours, then switch to paracetamol or the dreaded Tramadol, then back to the big dose of ibuprofen. I’m cautiously optimistic that OTC addition should help.

A heating pad was also recommended and currently in place.

This is my life for the next week and a half, I guess. #KidneyStonesSuck

Procedure #2 scheduled for Feb 2. Here’s to steady improvement until that day, cuz this still isn’t fun.
