A ★★½ review of The Return of Godzilla (1984)
Mir hat der modernistische Drive dieses Films schon gefallen und auch die damit einhergehende Ausformulierung der Warnungen vor nuklearer Eskalation generell und im Kalten Krieg explizit. Gerade durch Hiroshima und Nagasaki hat die japanische Perspektive hier einen besonderen Stellenwert. Gleichzeitig hatte ich das Gefühl, dass dieser Film fast schon propagandistische Züge annimmt und bei dieser doch sehr selbstgefälligen Verurteilung der damaligen Sowjetunion und den USA bequemerweise ausgeblendet, dass die nukleare Bedrohung eben nicht nur durch die militärische Nutzung entsteht.
