Rental Family review

If you want to read my review of Rental Family, read this post. In レンタル・ファミリー, Phillip is an American actor who lives in Tokyo and receives a job offer. He just didn't know it would involve acting in people's real lives and the impact those relationships would have on his own.

Japanese movies me
A ★★★½ review of Exit 8 (2025)

I am a big lover of analog horror as well as video games so when I heard the ‘Eye Spy’ Japanese horror game that takes 10 minutes to beat was getting a movie adaptation I knew I had to see it. And yeah, it’s decently good considering what it is! It’s no film of the year, I was honestly more hyped for Backrooms, but it’s still a fun movie. Has some really great cinematography moments and sound design, but I think the shining moment was Walking Man - he absolutely killed it with his performance and was really interesting as

Glasses / めがね (2007).
A slow-paced movie that you're hesitant to watch at first, but then it somehow pulls you in. It tells you almost nothing about the characters, you have all the same first impressions the main heroine has of the people and place. And at the beginning it seems irritataing, like what do you mean we're not told anything and not a single question is answered? But by the end it doesn't matter. It shows the way to "twilight", calmly accept whatever life is to offer and just drift, drift, drift... into the contemplative state. Very curious about the word 黄昏れる ("tasogareru") that was the basic idea here. Translators might've had a bit of a hard time here, English ones chose "to twilight", which is the only meaning I knew, but NOT in its verb form... hmm.
By the end it started feeling borderline magical in a totally non-magical setting

As of this post, I haven't watched the full film yet, but I will watch it later. I remember when YouTube, or the internet in general, used to be a place where videos like this one is something that we completely believe as it is.

Ghost From Japanese subway

YouTube

This video is the video I have been looking for on YouTube since around 2016 or 2017. Finally I found this video now. At that time I thought this was real. Now I know that this is a clip from "Ura Horror", a found footage anthology horror film by Kōji Shiraishi, released in 2008.

Poetic, emotional, heartwarming, and funny.

And who doesn't need warmth and sweetness on a rainy February night?

Rental Family, Hikari
