I only found out today that #KenDownie from #TheBlackDog died recently. Very sad news.

I never got over hearing this which I bought for 50p from HMV when I was starting to DJ techno. This made me realise how broader that genre could be and the E.P. sounds as future forward today as it did in 1992. I bought everything I could from them and all the offshoots like #Plaid and it opened the way towards getting in to as weird music as I could find. R.I.P.

1/ late night extra to going back through Ken Downie's work with @theblackdog

I'd always wondered why the Hebrew letter Χ“ΧœΧͺ (dalet) was spelled out on the front cover of 2005 album Silenced.

Thank you Chabad website:

"The Mishnah tells us that in the Holy Temple, there was a room called β€œthe Silent Chamber.” One would enter this room alone and close the door. In the room was a big box. One had a choice: either to put money into the box or to take some out. Of course, the wealthy person would put money in. The poor person, also alone, would take money out. It was all done discreetly. The rich couldn’t see to whom they were giving charity. The poor didn’t know from whom they was taking it."

Knowing Ken Downie's fascination with ancient civilizations and spirituality, I'd conclude that it was a reference to "the Silent Chamber" in the Holy Temple.

I wrote about Black Dog-cofounder Ken Downie's wonderful music and visual art for @cdmblogs - magic, cyber-Egyptology, and gorgeous downtempo melodies.

Also many thanks to Bruno at The Milk Factory for his excellent 2005 interview with The Black Dog, which gave some rare insights into Downie's mysterious (and mystical) world. And as always to @pkirn for publishing!
