1/ late night extra to going back through Ken Downie's work with @theblackdog
I'd always wondered why the Hebrew letter ΧΧΧͺ (dalet) was spelled out on the front cover of 2005 album Silenced.
Thank you Chabad website:
"The Mishnah tells us that in the Holy Temple, there was a room called βthe Silent Chamber.β One would enter this room alone and close the door. In the room was a big box. One had a choice: either to put money into the box or to take some out. Of course, the wealthy person would put money in. The poor person, also alone, would take money out. It was all done discreetly. The rich couldnβt see to whom they were giving charity. The poor didnβt know from whom they was taking it."
Knowing Ken Downie's fascination with ancient civilizations and spirituality, I'd conclude that it was a reference to "the Silent Chamber" in the Holy Temple.
