Josephine Cristine Kaufman ha documentato l’esperienza in un video condiviso tramite Storyful, che mostra il veicolo tentare una svolta a sinistra prima di fermarsi improvvisamente nel bel mezzo di un incrocio piuttosto trafficato. Mentre l’auto rimaneva ferma con i passeggeri a bordo impauriti, gli automobilisti circostanti rallentavano per evitare lo schianto.
Una corsa da brividi
“Quindi non è andata bene, 0/10”, ha scritto in seguito Kaufman nella didascalia del video, aggiungendo che il gruppo si era sentito “quasi” in pericolo. Nel filmato si sentono le voci dei passeggeri preoccupate di quel che sarebbe potuto accadere, con uno degli amici di Josephine che si scusa con gli altri automobilisti. Dopo aver condiviso la clip online, Kaufman è tornata nella sezione commenti con un aggiornamento su come è stata gestita la situazione. Ha detto di aver ricevuto un’e-mail dall’azienda che riconosceva l’incidente e prometteva di esaminare l’accaduto. “Questo non è il tipo di esperienza che vorremmo offrire ai nostri passeggeri e stiamo esaminando la questione”, si leggeva nel messaggio, come riporta People. Josephine ha inoltre aggiunto che la compagnia le ha rimborsato il viaggio e le ha comunicato che l’addebito sarebbe stato rimosso dall’estratto conto entro pochi giorni.
Sebbene la corsa si sia conclusa senza incidenti, il video ha alimentato il dibattito sulla crescente presenza di veicoli a guida autonoma sulle strade pubbliche.

What was intended to be the first ride in a self-driving taxi quickly turned into a moment of great tension for a woman from Arizona and her friends. Josephine Cristine Kaufman documented the experience in a video shared via Storyful, which shows the vehicle attempting a left turn before abruptly stopping in the middle of a busy intersection. While the car remained stationary with the passengers aboard, surrounding drivers slowed down to avoid a collision.
A thrilling ride
“It didn’t go well, 0/10,” Kaufman wrote later in the video caption, adding that the group had felt “almost” in danger. The clip features the voices of the passengers expressing their worries about what could have happened, with one of Josephine’s friends apologizing to the other drivers. After sharing the clip online, Kaufman returned to the comments section with an update on how the situation was handled. She said she had received an email from the company acknowledging the incident and promising to investigate it. “This is not the type of experience we want to offer our passengers and we are looking into the matter,” the message read, as reported by People. Josephine also added that the company reimbursed her for the trip and informed her that the charge would be removed from her statement within a few days.
Although the ride ended without incident, the video fueled the debate on the growing presence of self-driving vehicles on public roads.
