Today I successfuly jailbroke my Kindle ebook-reader and thus can use it for ebooks originating not from the big "A".

If you want to do the same I recommend this video for an overview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qtk7ERwlIAk

And then these detailled instructions:
https://kindlemodding.org/

Last not least you may want to install this App on your computer to manage your ebooks in future:
https://calibre-ebook.com/

Saddly I did not find the option promoted in the video to setup my own screen saver (no important feature but would have been nice). And also the backing-up of the already purchased Amazon titles did not work. Appart from that everything looks quite promising now.

I’m a big fan of #koreader but I recently found #readest which I think is better suited to non e-ink displays. They’re also working on being able to sync with KOreader.

After one week of vacation and #reading (the kids are old enough that I can have a little bit of book n' chill! Praise to the unmoved mover!) I say that I absolutely love my jailbroken #kindl and especially #koreader.

This app is a little bit like #linux : if you dive into it you can customize nearly everything. I don't want to miss my custom status bar anymore. Last year I did install it on my #android tablet and I didn't get the appeal.

If you are the owner of a jailbroken #Kindle and you use #KUAL and #Koreader, it suddenly stopped working few days ago.

There is a fix at the mobile read forum by the developer of KUAL go to this page:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4506164#post4506164

Download the file titled DevCerts-20250419-KeyStore.zip

Select the .bin file that matches your kindle generation (mine was k5) and using a usb cable copy it to the root folder. 1/2

Incidentally I jailbroke my #kindle this week, and I wish I'd done it a decade ago tbh. Not only does #koreader read EPUB natively, but it can access libraries directly over wifi to download books - Standard Ebooks, Project Gutenberg, your local Calibre library...

It's amazing, even if it took a while to get it set up to my liking. The jailbreak is really easy and quick too.

One of the things I didn't want to miss out on is the current book art being used as the sleep screen. But no to worry, KOReader supports the current book as the sleep cover art.

I shouldn't be surprised as KOReader has exactly one bajillion features.

Hm, the #Pine Note has reasonable specs and an even more reasonable price at US$ 399 in the global Pine store, compared to offerings by #Boox and others. I‘m tempted. #KOReader is available on #Linux too. Dang, more options …
