geschichtetodayAm 17. April 1964, heute vor 59 Jahren, vollendete Jerrie Mock als erste Frau einen Alleinflug um die Erde.
Mit einer einmotorigen Cessna 180 startete sie in Columbus im US-Bundesstaat Ohio, wo sie nach 29 Tagen, 11 Stunden und 59 Minuten wieder landete. Zwei Wochen nach ihrer Landung wurde sie von Präsident Lyndon B. Johnson mit der Federal Aviation Agency Gold Medal ausgezeichnet.
