What's with the difference between font and writing of 令? - Lemmy.World

This character, 令 looks one way in text/font, and in my RTK book. But Jisho [https://jisho.org/search/%E4%BB%A4%20%23kanji] has a little animation that shows stroke order, and the bottom element here looks completely different in that hand-written version. Still two strokes, but a different resulting shape. The same applies to other kanji that build from it, like 冷, 零, etc. What’s the story? Is one or the other source wrong, has the character been updated to a new form, or do I just have wrong fonts?

Learn the piece, read the family. 例文: このスープ、見た目は地味だけど、ひと口で深い味が広がるよ。 Kono suupu, mitame wa jimi da kedo, hitokuchi de fukai aji ga hirogaru yo. This soup looks plain, but one sip and a deep flavor spreads. Want to READ kanji instead of cramming them? Japan's push for stricter language requirements exposes a growing tension between inclusive language education policies and enduring expectations that fluency should resemble native Japanese speech. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2026/05/22/japan/japanese-native-speaker-myth/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #commentary #japan #japaneselanguage #japaneselanguageproficiencytest #immigration
Beyond the native speaker myth: Who ‘owns’ the Japanese language?

As Japan considers adding language requirements to permanent residency and other visa categories, it must also reconsider what 'proficiency' means.
