(NSFW) do you find bad smut more often than you find good smut?

A hearty question! I'll try to keep the answer brief. x3

I'd say it's more a question of whether the smut I find is compatible with me, vs. incompatible.

"Good" and "bad" can so often depend on taste. On what I'm looking for from the work to begin with…

So, if a work's strengths line up with what I'm looking for at the time, it may well be that terrible weaknesses in other areas of the writing or narrative don't really register as a drawback…though, obviously, if a work is GOOD as well as hott, the right mood, and relatable to me, that's icing.

It can be difficult for me to find smut that is compatible with me; because I am multiply marginalized, and because I carry a lot of trauma.

It can be extremely hard to find pieces where fatphobia, or racism, or lookism, or blatant sexism or classism, won't destroy the mood.

^^; It doesn't help that many of the most popular kinks revolve around pain.
I'm so familiar with pain and harm and deprivation that reading it in a sexual context BORES me to bloody TEARS.

[ Not to yuk anyone's yum. Just, personally. Pain and harm; and the performance of sex as a tool or as a signal of status, and as some kind of aesthetic used to gain approval or bragging points from others not involved in the act, doesn't excite me -- as opposed to the substance of the act…how it FEELS, the sensory details, how it explores the interpersonal dynamic between two or more characters, how it adds to a character's experience and viewpoint, or either confirms or shifts their worldview, are FAR more interesting. ]

Because of all this -- and because of many other factors relating to my personal preferences -- I have a tendency of daydreaming or writing my OWN smut. Creating my own characters, my own worlds, and my own scenarios; in order to affirm and celebrate my sexuality; and to explore other themes related to my traumas and my identity ….

It has become more difficult to do because of medical reasons and life reasons…but it's still fun, whenever I can do it. It often proves faster than sifting through media after media with little to no results.

Still pretty sure that if Sex Ed hadn't been ass growing up, then I would have found out that you can't change your sexuality way, WAYYY earlier.

Also, if Sex Ed hadn't been ass, I would have learned that Asexuality was already a thing way WAYYY earlier.

And if I had learned that those two things were true way, WAYYY earlier; I would have understood that I was just myself, and that that's okay -- it's even really, really good actually. And I then wouldn't have wasted ten years of my life actively hating and mentally self-harming trying to "Become A Being Of No Urges".

I could have leaned into being a horn dog of a woman way WAYYY earlier.

But then again, the capitalist system wouldn't have been able to suppress and manipulate me as well. And wouldn't THAT have been a shame? 😒

The framing of 'democrat' and 'republican' in US politics has created a screwed up dual aesthetic that has encouraged people to view their "political parties" as if they're sports teams.

I think we need a far deeper and more sobering spectrum of measurement in order to determine if your political goals are valid…one that can be applied no matter where you live, or what your political parties are called.

☝🏾✨ To help authoritarian-proof your politics, ask: Are your policies and political goals CLOSER, or FARTHER AWAY from what the Nazis would want?

Would the results of your goals make the Nazis happy?
Or sad?

Are you trying to hoard accomodations and resources for the ultra rich?
Or are you trying to provide resources and accomodations for the poor and the vulnerable?

Are are you trying to ban(burn) books, muddy important issues, make up fake data out of thin air, and spread disinformation?
Or are you trying to encourage science, provide education, and use evidence-backed data and studies in order to guide policy-making?

Are you trying to atomize communities?
Or strengthen them?

Are you trying to privatize public works and services for the profit of corporations?
Or protect, improve, and expand them for the proper functioning of society?

Are you trying to enshrine and enforce christianity on everyone?
Or are you making sure to both safeguard and expand religious and non-religious freedoms for all?

Are you trying to control the identity, gender, expression, and consensual sexual practices of the population? Or are you trying to empower them?

There are hundreds of questions like this that we can ask.

And the best part is, we don't even have to research all that hard in order to know which questions matter!

Our grandparents, great grandparents, and great great grandparents did all that work the first time: during and after fighting WWII.

It's time for us to get serious and to stop failing this open book test.

No Appeasement.

And no more of this "Profit and Property over People and the Planet" nonsense!

In order to make great and life-affirming policy, make the Nazis sad!
