My statement below.: “Donald Trump’s latest move to create a ‘media bias’ website and ‘offender tip line’ is not about defending truth; it is intimidation, and a dangerous escalation of the White House’s attacks on free speech in the United States. This ‘tip line’ is not a good-faith effort to correct errors or combat misinformation. It is a pipeline for harassment that can be weaponized against those who refuse to bend to the White House’s narrative. When the government singles out outlets and reporters it doesn’t like and invites citizens to play along, it sends a chilling message: report critically about those in power, and you could be next on the list. We’ve seen this tactic before. In 2022, when I was appointed to help the U.S. government set policy on how to respond to disinformation while protecting free speech, the MAGA movement launched a coordinated campaign of lies about my work. They falsely claimed I wanted to censor Americans and run a ‘Ministry of Truth.’ The result was harassment, doxxing, and violent threats against me and my family while I was pregnant. Today, the Trump administration is openly embracing the very behavior they falsely accused me of. At The American Sunlight Project, we are tracking these abuses in real time. In Pink Floyd's song, "In the Flesh," there's a verse that begins, "Are there any QUEERS in the theater tonight? Get 'em up against the wall!" The song then runs down a list of traditionally persecuted groups, including Jews and Blacks (using a racist epithet). "There's one in the spotlight--he don't look right to me--get him up against the wall!"
As #AgolfShitler's ICE #Sturmtrumpers start boarding public conveyances in full battle rattle, indiscriminately questioning everyone (without warrant) looking for marginalized groups, who's to say what group is next in the spotlight? "First they came for...." Will you say nothing?
One of the chilling messages inside Pink Floyd's song is that everybody in the audience presumably CHOSE to be there "in the theater." They thought they were part of the IN group. And maybe they WERE: by the end of the video, all who remain are explicitly exposed as mindless supporters of the new order. But as that one verse made clear, the fascists always come for YOU, eventually, no matter how loyal you think you are; no matter how much of your humanity you've surrendered to the #Donjjal "for a little temporary security."

They are counting on citizens to turn a blind eye and allow them to deport undocumented citizens without challenge. Disabuse them of that notion. 🔘 If you are on a train, bus, or anything else and ICE or CBP boards, you need to stand up and loudly let everyone know that they have the right to remain silent or only answer questions in the presence of an attorney, no matter their citizenship or immigration status. There have been numerous reports that confronting the agents in this way has caused them to leave without verifying citizenship. THIS CAN SAVE LIVES. 🙌 🔘 If you see anyone being held up by immigration, loudly ask if they are being detained and if they are free to go. -2-
