Israeli military drops charges against soldiers accused of sexually assaulting Palestinian detainee

Israel’s military on Thursday said it was dropping charges against 5 soldiers accused of abusing a Palestinian detainee in an alleged assault partially caught on camera.

The now-dismissed indictment accused the soldiers of dragging a prisoner along the floor, stepping on him, tasering him, and stabbing him in the rectum. The Palestinian was taken to an Israeli hospital with fractured ribs and a perforated rectum that required surgery.

The military’s top legal officers said the charges were dropped because the video did not show abuse violent enough to merit a criminal conviction and had been improperly leaked to the media.

Netanyahu welcomed the decision, saying that “the state of #Israel must pursue its enemies, not its heroic fighters.”

Netanyahu says prison abuse leak caused ‘enormous reputational damage to Israel,’ calls for inquiry

Prime Minister Benjamin #Netanyahu says the leak of footage showing ostensible abuse of a Palestinian prisoner at Sde Teiman “caused enormous reputational damage to #Israel, to the #IDF, and to our soldiers.”

“It is perhaps the most serious public-relations attack Israel has experienced since its founding — I cannot recall one so concentrated and intense,” he continues.

Military Advocate Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi resigned from her post on Friday after admitting that she had leaked a video that purportedly shows several Israeli soldiers severely beating and injuring [and gang raping with a knife -ed.] a Palestinian security detainee at the Sde Teiman military detention facility in 2024.

Western Media Won’t Call IDF Gang Rape What It Is

Western media has failed to accurately describe events at the heart of an Israeli military scandal, after the country’s top military lawyer was arrested for leaking footage of #IDF soldiers allegedly gang-raping a Palestinian prisoner.

The attack was so brutal that the man was hospitalised with a ruptured bowel, severe anal and lung injuries and broken ribs.

Sky News, BBC, Channel 4, The Guardian, Financial Times, Bloomberg, The Times, The Telegraph and The Independent failed to use the word ‘rape’ in their headlines when reporting on the story.

Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the leak “perhaps the most severe public relations attack that the State of #Israel has experienced”.

Defence minister Israel Katz accused Tomer-Yerushalm of participating in “blood libel” against the alleged rapists.

Israel rocked by scandal as top military lawyer resigns, goes missing, is found and thrown into jail

Until last week, Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi was the #Israel army’s top lawyer. Now she is behind bars.

The saga was touched off by Tomer-Yerushalmi’s explosive admission that she approved the leak of a video of severe abuse against a Palestinian.

The video shows #IDF soldiers taking a detainee into an area they cordoned off to hide their actions. The indictment said the soldiers sodomized him with a knife.

When military police came to Sde Teiman in July to detain the soldiers, they scuffled with protesters opposed to the arrests. Later, hundreds of violent protesters broke into the detention center.

“Unfortunately, this basic understanding — that there are actions which must never be taken even against the vilest of detainees — no longer convinces everyone,” Tomer-Yerushalmi wrote.

Israel weighs West Bank annexations in response to Palestine recognition push

The Israeli government is seriously debating the annexation of parts of the occupied #WestBank in retaliation for imminent recognition of Palestine by several western countries, according to three Israeli, U.S. and European officials with direct knowledge.

Israel’s next move will depend on the stance of President Trump, who blocked annexations twice in his first term. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee told Axios the administration doesn’t yet have a position.

Countries including Australia, Canada, France and the U.K. announced they will recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly in September, joining nearly 150 countries that already do.

European officials warn #annexation would likely lead to sanctions against #Israel by the EU and western countries.

US denies intervening in case of Israeli official accused of Nevada sex crime

The US State Department said the American government played no role in the release of an #Israeli official charged with soliciting sex electronically from a minor.

Tom Artiom Alexandrovich was charged following an undercover operation “targeting child sex predators,” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said.

Israeli media said #Alexandrovich, who they described as a senior department head in Israel’s National Cyber Directorate, was released by US authorities and is back in #Israel.

At the time, Las Vegas was hosting #BlackHat, one of the #cybersecurity industry’s most prominent conferences.

Alexandrovich “did not claim diplomatic immunity and was released by a state judge pending a court date. Any claims that the US government intervened are false,” the State Department said.

Israeli official skips US court hearing on child sex charges

A senior Israeli official accused of child sex crimes in the USA has failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing.

Tom Artiom Alexandrovich was allowed to return to #Israel after being charged with luring or attempting to lure a child online to engage in sexual conduct. His release without restrictions has led to speculation that he may have received preferential treatment.

The government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu falsely denied that Alexandrovich was arrested and downplayed the incident.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said there was nothing unusual about how the case was handled.

“The standard bail for this charge was $10,000, so anybody … can post that bail and get released with no conditions,” Wolfson said.

Israeli army unit involved in deadly Gaza hospital attack ‘angry’ over Netanyahu’s ‘regret’

Discontent was reported within the Israeli army’s Sayeret Givati unit after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed “deep regret” for a deadly strike on a hospital in southern #Gaza that left 20 people dead, including five journalists, local media said Tuesday.

The outlet said Israeli soldiers confirmed the strike was approved and coordinated with senior command.

Maariv newspaper reported the strike was carried out by a tank crew that “fired several shells, the first toward the hospital stairs and then apparently toward rescue teams arriving on site.”

Firing toward a hospital requires special authorization, sometimes from the regional commander or even the chief of staff, military sources told Israel’s public broadcaster KAN.
