The bowl of a "Dùidín" a clay pipe - these were often bought in bulk and used at wake houses before cigarettes became widely available. They would have been offered to visitors along with tobacco to smoke while waking the dead. This piece was found by the child of a good friend while digging near their home. County Clare, Ireland.

Having left and deactivated #TheBirdNest I am missing the #IrishWake by #IrishTwitter. For those of you who don't know what is a "Wake" - it is when someone has died everyone who knew the person would gather around and share stories of the person's life usually for 3 days after the person died.
