Onward to episode 2! I really liked it! I've for once got more compliment than sandwich!
I really loved the banter between Daniel Molloy and Louis de Pointe du Lac. Molloy has great comments throughout the whole thing. He feels human and just like a good frenemy and interviewer. I think his actor did a good job, and I just love the atmosphere of the dining area generally. It was dramatic, with little bits of comedy, really perfectly balanced in my opinion.
🩸 I loved the use of puppets and baby dolls. I appreciate them not abusing an animal or making literal babies work. I really do hate child acting and I'm fine with a complete end to it. Kids shouldn't be working. They should be learning and growing. I love watching TV, but it's not worth (what should be) child labor law violations. So good on the director for that call.
I hate Louis's sunglasses that he wears when going to visit his family. They're just not sexy.
love the tears of blood. I think that's a great touch for a vampire. Lovely.
I think Damek's moment is great. I love that he just tries to shoot the shit while getting his neck sucked, and then tries to walk away but just fucking eats shit. I think it's cute how sweet Louis is with him too. I dunno. I loved the interaction. It made me smile and giggle. Damek's outfit was also very good
Lestat's big sexy moment where he does this great power move of rescuing Louis from the sunlight and then getting naked and getting in his coffin.
I uploaded a clip to my peertube with visual description in the description (if you click the link) and I also did the captions myself

🩸 Ok, but Lestat's butt was great, and the "come so hard you float up bit" was hott (and also silly.) You can't not appreciate the bit. They've both got great bodies though Lestat's butt was his most charming feature in episode 1
🩸 I do think it's interesting that Lestat needed consent to turn Louis into a vampire? Like, is that their take on the "vampires need to be let in" thing? You can't turn someone who doesn't say yes of their own free will? (but you can totes manipulate them to get there?) I dunno. Interesting take.
🩸 Do these vampires feel a bit too OP for anyone else? Like the starting a fire with your mind felt too much. Am I being a fantasy purist? I dunno. I just feel like reading minds, super sonic speed, the ability to fly, and immortality/eternal youth are just so many buffs that adding fire powers felt a bit over the top. Maybe it's just me though. I'm all for whatever keeps vampires relevant. I can get into this bit. Please don't take vampires from me.
It. Is. Compliment. 🥪 Time!
So, I watched the first 3 episodes, but I'll go episode by episode on my thoughts. Let's start with the 1st.
I'm so happy there's Black people in this rendition, and that it actually stars a Black vampire. New Orleans would be nothing without the Black people that built the city and culture you love. The food? The art? The music? The festivities? You have all of that because of Black people and it's a goddamn shame that they weren't featured in the original movie, so great on the directors and producers (including Anne Rice!) for making up for that.
Lestat is such a weird white European man. He's not sexy at all in the 1st episode and boo for that. Like, I know vampires are predators and actually not nice and there's a lot of complicated bad shit they do with regards to age gaps (and I do condemn those and talk about them a lot), but sexy man that drinks my blood was like my one guilty pleasure in media that is so hard to drop- but Lestat's just... weird lol I think this gets better in the next episodes, but first episode just feels so weird with regards to his character. Maybe it's partially that I hate his initial outfits and hair dresser? I dunno, fashion nerds, please chime in on episode 1 Lestat wardrobe, hair, and makeup
It's so queer! I have never seen anything in vampire TV shows or movies that featured queer Black vampires. I like that they don't make it as homophobic as you might think too. Like there's only a couple people that make it weird, and they're not like, being hunted for being gay. It's nice. It's still messy af, but a queer relationship regardless.
I know why Lestat kills ppl that stand in the way of his love, but I still think he's just such a dick for messing with Louis's family like he did. Killing off Louis's brother (allegedly) and his main friend and sexual partner was pretty low. That was unnecessary & if you're honestly just looking to be a vampire w/ another vampire for eternity, why not just be nice to his family until they die for sake of his respect. Like, my guy, what's up?
Louis is hot enough to make up for how fuckin' weird Lestat is. I love his present day look in the 1st episode too. I think he looks great in all his suits. Seriously his fashion is literally always strong. I love his colorful suits too! I liked him enough to graduate him to the jellyfin Shows thumbnail. Here, you can also have a poorly cut out Louis de Pointe du Lac for your collection
