My son got a bill for a medical procedure 18 months ago that was a follow up on a workers comp claim from 22 months ago.
We called the billing office and you could hear the exasperation in the agents voice when she saw in their system it was a Workers Comp situation…

“Just a moment, there are a LOT of notes, I don’t think you want me to read them ALL to you…”

“They (comp insurer) denied payment 18 months ago and then delayed and denied and delayed some more… we finally got a ‘no reserve left on this claim’ *2* months ago and billed your regular insurance…”

So basically the Workers Comp insurance ran out the clock until they could say “Not our problem” and walk away, sticking us with the bill.

Our insurance just this month agreed to discount but not pay…”that applies to your deductible”
